1Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) launched its “UniFi” next-generation High Speed Broadband (HSBB) service at Dataran Merdeka here on Wednesday, but did not release pricing details for the new packages.

UniFi promises a world of faster, richer and more reliable online experience, the company said in a statement, adding that pricing details would be disclosed on Thursday.

“Now that UniFi … has arrived, we anticipate it will be a digital lifestyle changer as well as an enabler for the vast majority of our subscribers,” said TM chairman Datuk Dr Halim Shafie.

TM’s UniFi high speed broadband packages comprise triple-play services of high speed Internet, video (IPTV) and phone, at speeds of 5Mbps, 10Mbps and 20Mbps.

The IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) service, which makes up part of the value-add bundled service, will be delivered via an 8Mbps connection exclusively and in addition to the data speeds subscribed by customers.

With IPTV, customers can enjoy 22 linear channels, Video-On-Demand and interactive services such as games, tourism information and more, TM said.

The initial areas covered by TM’s UniFi are the four exchange areas of Shah Alam, Subang Jaya, Taman Tun Dr Ismail and Bangsar.

In addition to these, UniFi will be expanded to another 22 exchange areas by June and a further 22 by December.

That means, by year-end 2010, TM’s UniFi will cover 48 exchange areas with a total of 750,000 premises passed. This would include key areas such as Putrajaya, Cyberjaya and Iskandar Malaysia, the company said.

TM said it has already completed 311,000 premises passed, surpassing the target of 300,000 premises passed by the end of March. (“Premises passed” refers to the number of premises that are connected by UniFi and have the ready option to take up the service if they wanted to.)

The launch ceremony on Wednesday was attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Mohd Yassin and others.

HSBB is a flagship project of the National Broadband Initiative that aims to boost the country’s competitiveness. The RM11.3bil national HSBB project is a joint effort between TM and the Government to develop next generation high speed broadband infrastructure and services for the nation.

TM is putting up RM8.9bil while the Government is co-investing RM2.4bil on an incurred claims basis based on project milestones reached by TM

Like Personas? Get Personas Plus for more

Personas is now available for everybody who updated to Firefox 3.6, just released yesterday. However, before been a feature, it was an extension, developed by Mozilla Labs. It’s the first of hopefully a long list of innovations to come to Firefox (and most likely, other web browsers as well). Other Mozilla Labs’ projects including Prism, Weave, and Jetpack are next in line (Ubiquity will come later).

Now that personas are available for Firefox 3.6, the original extension has been rebranded as Personas Plus, as it provides even more functionality. Here are a few reasons you may want to try Personas Plus:

Browse personas by category, popularity, and most recently added. With over 35,000 personas, this one is really helps you reach the best when there’s no much time.

Have your favorites on hand. You will need to register at getpersonas.com, so you can mark your and save your favorite personas to have them easily accessible from the Personas Plus’ status bar menu.

Make your own persona. First, you have to enable the Custom Persona menu option via Personas Plus’ preferences. Then you can set colors and images for your toolbars and status bar background.

Combine themes and personas. This is one of the most common complaints I have heard about Personas implementation in Firefox: you can’t mix themes and personas. While I can understand this is an uncommon case for most users, I don’t get why this capability was removed from the latest Personas Plus 1.5. If you install the previous version 1.4 you will be able to have a themes’ button icons for example on top of the persona. Below is the

Firefox 3.6 has yet another secret feature that could significantly improve your web browsing on Windows: scroll acceleration.

By default, when you scroll the mouse wheel, the web page is scrolled the same number of lines no matter how many times you have already scrolled it. But, if you have scrolled the page a certain number of times in a short period, probably you are looking for something far below or above, and accelerating may be helpful.

Scroll acceleration was implemented by Mozilla intern Margaret Leibovic, very early in Firefox 3.6 development, but finally turned off because it could conflict with mouse driver based acceleration, detecting it was out of scope. So it was postponed for next versions.

But the feature is there, and I have found it very useful, and have become used to it. To enable it, go to about:config to access the advanced preferences. Then look for mousewheel.acceleration.start, and set it to the number of successive mouse scrolls that will trigger acceleration. I found 3 to be a good number for me. Then, set mousewheel.acceleration.factor to how many times faster you want to scroll. I tried and liked 5.

With Firefox’s default setting it took me 14 mouse scrolls to scroll Margaret’s post (with 30+ comments), versus 6 with acceleration.

If you try this setting, please share the values you found to work best for you. Credit: Mozillalink

Things you need to know about the new USB port version 3.0

In general, USB 3.0 promises the following:

Higher transfer rates (up to 4.8 Gbps)

Increased maximum bus power and increased device current draw to better accommodate power-hungry devices

New power management features

Full-duplex data transfers and support for new transfer types

New connectors and cables for higher speed

Backwards compatible with USB 2.0 devices and computers

Is USB 2.0 isn’t fast enough to get the job done?

Well, yes and no. USB 2.0 for many applications provides sufficient bandwidth for a variety of devices and hubs to be connected to one host computer. However, with today’s ever increasing demands placed on data transfers with high-definition video content, terrabyte storage devices, high megapixel count digital cameras, and multi-gigabyte mobile phones and portable media players, 480Mbps is not really fast anymore. Furthermore, no USB 2.0 connection could ever come close to the 480Mbps theoretical maximum throughput, making data transfer at around 320 Mbps – the actual real-world maximum. Similarly, USB 3.0 connections will never achieve 4.8 Gbps, but even 50% of that in practice is almost a 10x improvement over USB 2.0.

Operating System Support?

So far only Microsoft confirms that their new Windows 7 will support USB 3.0 using some patches.

Logo: (certified hardware will have this sticker)

Anybody using internet must have heard google. Sometime I found myself trying to search in google, but not one search but multiple search and it slowed me down by wanting to open so many tabs in my firefox (yeah everybody loves firefox). So I present you, the googlex4.

Basically it open 4 google page in one page so you can search 4 keywords at one time. Save your time so that you can feed your cat or dog.

Welcome to my own techno news page. Here are some information of technology that I found in the world of the internet. Anything that I find on the internet will be shared, and through knowledge you get power, and with power comes great responsibility.

Decided one day that I would compile anything that I find interesting and put it here instead saved them in my brain. Since I assume that I have some short term memory lost issue, while its still fresh, I will jot it down here. Scrap blog I guess. Lets tell and share information. It wont kill you, but….

Internet can kill you. Why? Too much info.

Enjoy.
